Nokia N79

Nokia N79

It’s been almost 7 months now since I had purchased my Nokia N79 but I haven’t made a review yet. It’s better late than never, so here’s my review after almost 7 months of using the Nokia N79.

The 3 main reasons on buying the Nokia N79: (1) it has a 5-megapixel camera with video (VGA 30fps) and flash, (2) it’s operational on a 3G Network; and (3) it has WLAN, a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g.

Its 5-megapixel camera can serve as a handy digital camera in daylight. It has an acceptable quality when capturing video on a 30fps. However, camera clarity is not so good in low light and flash doesn’t reach long distance. On the other hand, connecting to a wireless network is not a hassle because N79 has an excellent WLAN operation. I get good use of this Nokia phone when browsing the web since our apartment is a Wifi zone. I usually used the N79 to check my emails and blogs when I’m already at my bedrooms lying. But sometimes, the phone gets struck when fully loaded with data in memory, probably its limited 83-MB internal memory. Nevertheless, the N79 is a very handy gadget for updating your facebook or twitter account and connecting to the internet while in a public place with free Wifi connection, such as malls and food chains. In case there’s no Wifi signal available, you can surf the internet using 3G signal,in my case it’s a Smart 3G signal. In fact, I am taking advantage of the “UnliSurf promos” offered by my network provider; I’m turning my N79 into a mini laptop by browsing the web 24 hours for only Php50.00 (~$1).

Nokia N79Aside from these 3 main features, N79 also has a built-in FM transmitter, which works perfectly within 10 to 15-feet range. The motion sensor is good for N-gage gaming. You can also install other 3rd party applications and themes with ease that you can download from sites offering these perks.

Speaking of user themes, the Nokia N79 comes with smart XpressOn color cover with electronic chips embedded to automatically switch the theme. However, I have problem while doing these often since sometimes the phone switches themes itself without even changing the cover, this might be some programming glitch.

The sound from the speakers is so loud enough but it I am enjoying my Nokia N79 with headset on, listening to my favorite songs, which consume most of my 4G memory card. It has also an FM receiver so I can listen to FM radio stations.
