ASUS GX501VI ROG Zephyrus is a remarkable gaming laptop. If you can afford it, you should definitely read this review. Don’t get me wrong… Feel free to read this review and all of my other reviews, no matter who you are and how much is your salary. 🙂

It’s a monster and if you’re a game addict it has to be on your desk! There’s no way I can fully describe to you the way it looks like. It’s a combination of retro and science fiction. Retro because the appearance is not eye-catching, but the materials and attention to details are stellar! You have to touch and feel one in order to fully realize what I’m talking about. But one thing I can tell you: this is the thinnest gaming laptop on the market. It’s 17 mm thin and it’s even lighter and thinner than its predecessors (MSI, Asus, Acer etc.).

ASUS GX501VI ROG Zephyrus – Check for exact price & full specs

When you open the lid you’ll see a beautiful 15.6 inch full HD display in front of you. Yes, I know, it’s not 4K, but it has something that I’m sure you’ll be satisfied about: a 120 Hz G-sync panel. What do you need that for? Maybe to play all of your favorite games in 80-120 FPS? I don’t know… I’m just saying… It’s not just a regular full HD display. It’s a fantastic one! Once again, you’ll know what I’m talking about only after you’ll watch a Blu-ray movie on this staggering display. Only then you will realize what a magnificent screen can be.

Let me tell you a few things about the keyboard and touchpad. They are amazing! Actually, I don’t think the GX501VI Zephyrus model has a weak spot. Maybe the price is a bit spicy, but if we are taking only a quick look at the specs, the price doesn’t seem that big of a deal anymore. This gaming station has a full UK layout keyboard. Yes, it’s comfortable! Yes, it has soft (great travel) buttons! Yes, it has RGB illumination! No, the touchpad is not positioned as usual! It’s on the right of the keyboard and I think it’s weird, but in a few days you will get used to it.

Allow me to tell you a few things about the “heavy stuff”, as well. Actually, the numbers will talk for themselves so I’m not going to elaborate about this subject pretty much.

  • The CPU – it couldn’t have been an Ivy Bridge model. Of course, we are talking about a top-notch 2017 7th generation Intel core i7 4-core CPU. It has a 2.8 GHz frequency;
  • the RAM memory -16 GB. I’m not sure if you can upgrade it to 32 GB, but most of the times that will be enough;
  • the storage unit – surprisingly, the manufacturer decided not to implement a hybrid HHD/SSD unit. You’ll have a single SSD unit, but it’s not a regular one. It’s a PCIe 512 GB SSD storage unit. It’s blazing fast, much faster than a regular one, and it’s pretty big, too;
  • the graphics card (I have saved the best for the last) – I’m inviting you to guess. What graphics cards this laptop might have? Maybe the GTX 1050? Or maybe the 1060? Is it possible the be equipped with the 1070 version? Well, stop guessing… Because this laptop features the latest and greatest god-like 8 GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080. I know, I know, I know! It’s not the 1080TI 11 GB version, but it’s something you can write to your grand grandchildren about it. It’s useless to say that all of the games on the market will run flawless on this laptop.
